Soil

Aerate your soil

Use a pitchfork or aeration tool to loosen soils to a depth of about 6 inches. Loose soils encourage deeper root growth, allow water to reach roots, and reduce water runoff.

Use mulch

Mulch planting beds to add an extra layer between plant roots and air, helping to protect plants in a variety of ways.

Add organic matter.

Organic matter, such as compost, adds nutrients and holds moisture.

Grasscycle

Leave grass clippings on lawn (“mulch” setting on mower) so they decompose and release nutrients back into the soil, feeding the grass, and reducing the need for fertilizer.
